Tara High School Students Take a ‘Trip’ Around the World During In-School GeoJourney Expo

In late April, some areas of Tara High School looked more like an international marketplace during the ninth graders’ GeoJourney Expo. This year, every ninth grader and their World Geography teachers participated in the cross-curriculum event, which highlighted various countries’ cultures and customs.
The overall winner was student Verdell Johnson (pictured) with his display on Turkmenistan. In addition to the display boards, students participating in this semester-long project completed a detailed research booklet, created a copy of their assigned country's flag, made graphs and charts on aspects of their country, explored and prepared recipes from the culture, collected artifacts from the nation and wore the country’s traditional dress
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
