Teacher Wins $1,000 on Wheel of Fortune TV Show

It wasn’t a fortune, but it was a good chunk of pocket change that Woodlawn Middle School’s Danelle Miller won this month on Wheel of Fortune. The Social Studies teacher won $1,000 on the television game show October 14 after losing a bit to several bankrupts. Miller (in photo) enjoyed meeting celebrities Vanna White and host Pat Sajak (in photo). “It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Miller said. “I think I giggled the entire show out of pure excitement for just being there.” The show was pre-taped in a Los Angeles studio, and Miller initially qualified by attending preliminary auditions at the Belle of Baton Rouge when the Wheelmobile visited.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
