Tara High Freshman Named JROTC Cadet LET 1 Winner

Cadet PFC Renee Nguyen of Tara High School has won the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Leadership and Education and Training (LET) 1 Cadet of the Year Board Award.
The private first class demonstrated exceptional knowledge of the JROTC curriculum. She is a member of the Trojan Strong Armed Drill Team, the Cadet Challenge Team and the Tara High I CARE Team.Currently, she is ranked first out of 323 in her freshman class with a cumulative grade point average of 4.375.
According to Lt. Col. (LTC) Robert Hyver, who is over the EBR Schools JROTC Program, “Cadet PFC Nguyen exhibited high moral character and strong leadership traits as a freshman cadet.She not only excels in her extracurricular activites in JROTC but also displayed an impressive start to her high school academic career, as evidenced by her GPA and class standing.”
The Cadet of the Year Board includes four recognition events during the year, one for each of the four Leadership and Education and Training (LET) levels, from a first-year cadet to a fourth-year cadet. Each School System high school’s JROTC team is encouraged to enter an outstanding cadet at each level. Participants receive a certificate and medal, and the Board determines the overall LET level winners who receive a plaque. The Board consists of five JROTC instructors. Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center).
