From Tongue To Lung - Buchanan Students Learn About The Body

Buchanan Elementary School students visited “the lungs” of the Smart Bodies exhibit (pictured) Monday, October 20, at the school and learned about how the lungs function, why the body needs oxygen and more. The exhibit continues to Westdale Heights Academic Magnet School, 2000 College Dr., tomorrow, Wednesday, October 22. East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Kip Holden will be Westdale’s guest at the event from 9 to 10 am. The 35X45-foot exhibit has 11 stations of scientific activities related to the human body, including the stomach and nutrition and the heart and exercise. The display’s tour is thanks in part to the LSU Agriculture Center and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana.
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
