Three Teachers Recognized as the Best From the thousands of excellent teachers in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, 3 have been recognized as the best. The 2004-2005 Teacher of the Year Awards were presented by Volunteers in Public Education (VIPS) in a ceremony at Baton RougeMagnetHigh School.
The winners are Chris Rollins, Melrose Elementary, Dale Davidson, Westdale Middle, and Laree Taylor, NorthdaleMagnetAcademy. All three acknowledged family, other teachers, and staff at their respective schools for influencing them in their careers.
Fran Flenikan, 2003-2004 Elementary Teacher of the Year, and Margaret Lawrence, 2003-2004 Middle School Teacher of the Year, along with Myra Fontenot, Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services-Area III (High Schools) announced the winners. The winners received plaques, flowers, and gifts from VIPS, Neighbors Federal Credit Union, and the East Baton Rouge Parish Federation of Teachers.
The 3 winners were selected from the Teachers of the Year at 83 schools in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.

Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center).
