- February 14, 2011
It was a special day February 3 when four state troopers visited the Pre-K, kindergarten and second-grade classes at Riveroaks Elementary School for the school’s Real Men Read program.
Students greeted the troopers with a homemade banner and snacks, and they in turn read books like “Gloria” to students in classrooms. Troopers who participated in the event were (pictured, left to right): Trooper Michael Talley, Master Trooper Chavis Verrett, Ret. Capt. Michael Futch and Trooper Derek Sentino.
The district-wide Real Men Read program for February will be held Wednesday morning, February 16. East Baton Rouge Parish School System Superintendent John Dilworth will read to Ryan Elementary School third graders at 9:15 a.m. that day. In addition, high school boys will read to students at Delmont Elementary School beginning at 9 a.m. Those students are from Redemptorist High School, which is becoming Delmont Elementary’s school partner.
