Lowe’s Grant Gives Twin Oaks ES Students a New Place to Play
- May 25, 2010
It was a beautiful day on Saturday, May 8 – just right for volunteers to come together and install a new playground at Twin Oaks Elementary School. Volunteers included school students, staff, employees from Lowe’s of Baton Rouge and residents from the community. The new playground and fitness circuit was made possible by a $100,000 grant from Lowe’s.
The grant funding helped provide the school with two up-to-date play structures (one for ages 5-12 and one for ages 2-5), a four-station fitness circuit, a climber with hand and foot holes, bucket ball stands, picnic tables and a safety surface for the playground area. The May 8 day of service was organized in part by Louisiana State University’s Biological and Agricultural Engineering professor Marybeth Lima and her students. She also has led efforts over the years to construct more than 21 playgrounds at East Baton Rouge Parish School System schools.
