School System Raises Almost $60,000 For United Way

It was good news for United Way funding following the East Baton Rouge Parish School System’s 2008 campaign. Teachers, administrators, staff and students raised almost $60,000 despite a delay due to Hurricane Gustav and the current economic conditions.
At last night’s School Board meeting, the three top fund-raising sites in the School System were recognized by Edith Wright (left) of Capital Area United Way.
Of the total $59,937.30 raised by School System sites, the top campaigns were:
First place - CHRISTA McAULIFFE CENTER - $ 2,725 (site campaign coordinator 0Brenda French, second from left)
Second place - PARK FOREST MIDDLE SCHOOL - $ 2,626 (site campaign coordinator Brenda Roberts, second from right)
Third place - WESTDALE MIDDLE SCHOOL - $ 2,296 (site campaign coordinator Sherry Brock, right)
Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
