VIPS Luncheon Speakers to Cover Changes in Higher Ed Standards, Business-School Partnerships

Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) kicks off its monthly business-education luncheon speakers series this year with a discussion on the changes in higher education standards. This luncheon is scheduled at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 22, at Juban’s Restaurant and features education leaders East Baton Rouge Parish School System (EBRPSS) Superintendent John Dilworth, Acting State Superintendent of Education Ollie Tyler and EBRPSS School Board President Barbara Freiberg regarding how the role of the business community in public education will change because of the new standards.

Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center).
