Volunteer! Baton Rouge School Tools Drive Reaches 10 EBRPSS Schools

The Corporate Volunteer Council (CVC) of Volunteer! Baton Rouge collected over $10,000 in school supplies during its School Tools drive Aug. 5.Sixty-seven volunteers collected and sorted the supplies which were distributed to 11 EBR elementary schools and 2 WBR elementary schools.
Participating companies were American Gateway Bank, Capital One Bank, Cox Communications, Episcopal High School students, ExxonMobil, Embassy Suites, Honeywell, La Capitol Federal Credit Union, the Louisiana Lottery Corporation, LSU Career Services, Neighbors Federal Credit Union and the Port Allen Rotary.
Six area Wal Marts: Cortana, College Drive, O’Neal Lane, Port Allen, Siegen Lane, Sullivan Road; and Hubbens Grocery in Port Allen allowed CVC members and school and community volunteers to collect for school supplies in front of their stores on Aug. 5.
The following schools received supplies from this drive: In EBRPSS: Belfair Montessori Magnet, Bernard Terrace, Dufrocq, Glen Oaks Park, Greenville, Jefferson Terrace, Melrose, Sharon Hills, South Blvd. and Villa del Rey.

Principal Brister in Washington, D.C., to Accept McKinley Middle School’s Second Blue Ribbon Award
On Tuesday, November 13, 2012, Principal Herman Brister (pictured, left) and the school’s Teacher of the Year, Lynn Williamson (right), were in Washington, D.C., accepting McKinley Middle Academic Magnet School’s National Blue Ribbon Award from U.S. Department of Education’s Director of National Blue Ribbon Schools Program Aba Kumi (center). The event, which recognized some 314 schools from across the United States, was held at the Omni Hotel. Click herefor story.
